Rufaida Sehwail: Experimentation and Exploration

النص بالعربية

The destroyed works of Rufaida Sehwail, displayed on ArtZone Palestine as part of the ongoing art demonstration "DNA", belong to a period spanning from 2009 to 2023. These works reveal the artist's yearning for adventure and experimentation in terms of composition. It is evident that she is preoccupied with capturing the essence of movement and the fluidity of its occurrence within the artwork, whether it is the movement of the body, creatures, objects, or even the latent motion in what appears to be still and fixed.

In this way, she expresses her desire as an artist, a woman, and a human being to break free from the rigidity of reality and liberate herself from the stagnation and oscillation brought about by the ongoing state of siege and colonial dominance affecting life in the Gaza Strip, which, in turn, manifests in suffocating and pressing dimensions on multiple levels.

The adventurous spirit of the artist also manifests in her experimentation with materials, exploring various mediums such as watercolor on paper, acrylic on canvas, and other diverse materials, including organic substances, in addition to her engagement in expression through multiple artistic forms such as design and sculpture.

It is worth mentioning that Rufaida Sehwail has made video art, from an early stage, a central artistic form in her career, addressing complex themes and questions that may be constricted within a painting and other artistic forms.
