Taima Salama
Born in 1997 in Gaza, Palestine, and currently based in Cairo, Egypt, Taimaa Salama is a multidisciplinary artist whose work reflects her deep interest in cultural heritage and commitment to social impact. A graduate of Al-Aqsa University in Gaza, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts in 2019, embarking on a vibrant artistic journey that merges diverse materials and themes. Taimaa’s practice is characterized by her innovative use of materials, including painting, sculpture, fabrics, and paper. Her work often explores the natural beauty of the Gaza sea, the lives of fishermen, and intimate scenes of Palestinian family life.
Notably, Taimaa is committed to making her art inclusive, incorporating tactile textures into her works to support the blind, and producing a dedicated collection for blind children. Her art has been showcased in numerous exhibitions across Gaza, Italy, and beyond. In 2022, she participated in prominent exhibitions such as Gathering Point at Shababik Studio, Butterfly Effect and May 11 Exhibition at the Institut Français de Gaza, and That at YMCA. Her 2021 highlights include Mediterranean Frequencies, a cross-border exhibition spanning Gaza, Milan, and the Palestinian-occupied territories of 1948.
In 2022, Taimaa joined the "Adjacent to Italy" residency, and earlier, in 2020, she was awarded a residency organized by Shababik for contemporary art in Gaza. Beyond her personal practice, Taimaa is dedicated to teaching and community engagement, using art as a tool for psychological healing and empowerment in post-conflict settings. Through her exhibitions, public projects, murals, and educational initiatives, Taimaa Salama continues to weave narratives of resilience, creativity, and social justice.
