May Murad

Born in 1984 in Gaza, Palestine, and currently based in Paris, May Murad is a visual artist whose work is shaped by her experiences in Gaza. She graduated with a Fine Arts degree from Al-Aqsa University in 2006 and later earned a Master’s in Geopolitics of Art and Culture from Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris. Murad’s practice, which focuses on drawing, painting, and mixed media, explores themes of identity, exile, confinement, and resilience.

Her art reflects her belief that artists in Gaza don’t just document hardship but actively seek meaning in life under siege. Murad’s work bridges local realities with global issues, particularly the concepts of confinement and social distancing in today’s world. In addition to her many solo exhibitions and participation in group exhibitions across different cities in Palestine, Murad has held several solo exhibitions abroad, including "Réalité Virtuelle" (Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, 2021) and "Digital Residence" (Europia Gallery, Paris, 2019).

Her collective exhibitions have been showcased at prominent venues such as the Palais de Tokyo (2024), Musée d’Art Contemporain, Montpellier (2022), and Institut du Monde Arabe (2023). She has participated in several artistic residencies, including at the Higher Art School of Annecy (2021), Cité Internationale des Arts (2021), and the Dufraine Foundation (2019-2020). Through her work, May continues to address the complexities of life in Gaza, Palestinian identity, and the resilience of marginalized communities.
