Ibrahim Al-Awadi
Ibrahim Al-Awadi
A painter and flute player, born in the Jabalia refugee camp in 1976. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Al-Aqsa University↗ in Gaza in 2001. From 2000 until the beginning of the devastating war on Gaza, he served as the head of the Arts Department at the General Union of Palestinian Workers, as well as a lecturer at Al-Aqsa University, where he also supervised various training courses in oil painting and graphic design.
In 2014, he held a solo exhibition titled "Portraits" at the French-German Cultural Center in Ramallah, followed by the exhibitions "Harmony" (2017) and "Taraneem" (2021), where he explores the concept of representing music through painting. Al-Awadi has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including "Visual Stories" (2010), the "First Gaza Festival of Contemporary Visual Arts" (2011), "Encounter at Iltiqaa" (2011), and "Visions in Gaza" (2014) at the YMCA in Gaza.
Describing his artistic philosophy, Al-Awadi says, "My artistic philosophy lies in expressing the emotions of human experience and using colors to reflect dramatic expressions that tell visual stories. For me, painting and playing music are outlets through which I travel to virtual worlds that I create with a brush, colors, and the flute." The portraits he creates reflect the faces of those around him in Gaza, capturing both their pain and suffering due to the harsh realities of siege and ongoing conflict, while also revealing their hope, resilience, and resistance.
