Hamada ElKept

A visual artist from Palestine, currently residing in Brussels. His work spans various forms of visual art, including painting, drawing, performance art, and photography, through which he seeks to reinterpret significant events and articulate the fears that impact the lives of those in Gaza. In Hamada's own words, “life in Gaza resembles a fishing net riddled with holes, within which its inhabitants are ensnared, attempting to escape one entanglement only to find themselves trapped again.” His art reflects these experiences through irregular lines and trembling details, illuminating various facets of life for his people, who have suffered under the continuous suffocating siege and the brutalities of many wars. Hamada has participated in numerous community art initiatives, such as Gaza Graffiti and the Gaza seaport and airport projects through his project ‘Visa’.

His life in Gaza as a child and young man has profoundly shaped both his artistic expression and personal identity. In fact, Hamada believes that a person's environment significantly influences their aspirations and capabilities. His works capture human fears, discomfort, insecurity, and loss of freedom. The figures in his paintings, which sometimes compile into an indistinguishable mass, obscure personal privacy and identity. Their irregular lines, trembling details, and intense gazes evoke a sense of precarity and fear regarding an uncertain future
