Maha AlDaya

Born in Gaza City in 1976, Maha Al-Daya is a visual artist currently residing in Cairo. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Al-Azhar University (2002). She dedicates her time to painting and modern embroidery designs.

Her passion for art led her to participate in several courses in drawing and oil painting, while her love for embroidery inspired her to research Palestinian traditional dress, verify its details, and at times, recycle elements of it. In 2001, she participated in the Art Summer Academy at Darat al-Funun in Amman, under the supervision of renowned artist Marwan Kassab Bashi.

In 2012, Al-Daya was awarded an artist residency grant at the International City of Arts in Paris. Over the years, she has held several solo exhibitions, touring various cities in Palestine and abroad. She has also participated in numerous exhibitions both within and outside the country. Her work has been featured in many art catalogues and books. Additionally, she has taught art to people with special needs at summer camps, participated in numerous artistic workshops, and executed murals in public spaces.

After enduring months of continuous suffering and displacement in Gaza, Maha and her family moved to Cairo in search of a safe refuge. Her current work in Cairo focuses on depicting the devastation left behind by the genocidal war in Gaza.

These paintings were acquired and displayed in several homes in Gaza. Tragically, all of these homes were bombed and destroyed, along with everything inside, including AlDaya's artworks.
