Bassel Aklouk

Bassel Al-Aklouk is a Palestinian visual artist from Gaza, born in Damascus in 1973. He holds a master’s degree in fine arts, specializing in General Photography, from Alexandria University in Egypt, obtained in 2019. He earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from An-Najah National University in Nablus in 1998. Further enhancing his expertise, he completed a High Diploma in Art Education at Al-Aqsa University in Gaza, in collaboration with Helwan University in Egypt, in 2000.

Since 1998, Bassel has served as the Director of the Visual Arts Department at the Palestinian Ministry of Culture and as a lecturer at the College of Fine Arts at Al-Aqsa University in Gaza. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions both locally and internationally. Basil’s paintings incorporate a variety of forms, styles, and techniques. However, his art is not merely an aesthetic pursuit; it is a form of personal and political expression that conveys messages of resilience and hope. Like many artists and people in Gaza, Bassel’s life and career have been deeply affected by the ongoing conflict, which led to the destruction of his home, studio, and loss several of his paintings. After six months of war, he was able to escape Gaza and move to Cairo, Egypt, where he now resides and continues to pursue his artistic career.
